Mount Kenya National Park

Mount Kenya Climbing

Mount Kenya, Africa’s second-highest peak, offers a rewarding trek through several distinct ecological zones, from dense forest and bamboo to alpine moorland dotted with giant lobelias and groundsels found nowhere else. Point Lenana, the highest point reachable without technical climbing, sits at over 4,900 metres.

Popular routes like Sirimon and Chogoria typically take four to five days, with mountain huts or campsites along the way and porters supporting the trek. The final ascent to Point Lenana begins before dawn to catch sunrise over the jagged twin peaks and, on clear days, views stretching toward the Aberdares.

Compared to Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya offers a quieter, more technical-feeling trek with striking alpine scenery, making it a favourite for hikers seeking something a little wilder.
