A Taste of Chagga Culture Before Your Kilimanjaro Climb
Spend a half day exploring the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro with a visit to Materuni Village, where coffee-growing traditions, Chagga culture and beautiful mountain landscapes come together.
This experience is ideal as a gentle acclimatization activity before your Kilimanjaro trek. You’ll walk through the village and surrounding countryside, learn how locally grown coffee is cultivated and prepared, and hike through lush landscapes to a spectacular waterfall.
Experience Local Coffee Culture
Visit a local coffee farm and learn how coffee is grown, harvested, processed and prepared using traditional methods.
You’ll have the opportunity to participate in parts of the coffee-making process and enjoy a freshly prepared cup while learning about the importance of coffee farming to the local community.
Discover Chagga Culture
Your local guide will introduce you to the history, traditions and everyday life of the Chagga people who live around the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The experience offers an opportunity to interact with the local community and see a side of Tanzania beyond the national parks.
Hike to the Waterfall
Continue through the surrounding countryside on a scenic walk toward the waterfall.
The trail passes through green vegetation and local farmland, with opportunities to enjoy the landscape and learn about plants and life in the area.
The walk involves some uneven and occasionally steep sections, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
