Getting There

Flights to Kilimanjaro Airport, then road transfer.

Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, its snow-capped summit visible from the plains of northern Tanzania and neighbouring Amboseli in Kenya. Rising from surrounding farmland to over 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro is one of the most accessible major peaks in the world, climbable without technical mountaineering skills on most of its routes.

Several established routes lead to Uhuru Peak, each passing through a sequence of distinct ecological zones, from lower rainforest through moorland and alpine desert to the glaciated summit zone. Routes vary in length, scenery and success rate, giving climbers a choice between faster ascents and longer, better-acclimatised itineraries.

Most climbs begin and end near Moshi or Arusha, with flights arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Many travellers combine a Kilimanjaro trek with a northern circuit safari afterward, using the days on the mountain as a physical challenge before a more relaxed wildlife-focused stretch of the trip.
