Barafu Camp is a mountain camp at 4,673 m on Mount Kilimanjaro, used as an overnight stop on the Machame, Lemosho, Umbwe and Northern Routes. It stands on a rocky ridge and is the base camp for the summit attempt. The name means ice in Swahili.
Guests sleep in tents set up by the crew, with meals in a dining tent and basic toilets at the site. The camp is exposed and cold.
Trekkers rest in the afternoon and leave around midnight to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, before descending to a lower camp.
